Turning an experimental ML-powered scanner into a broader infant-care experience.
I helped turn an experimental ML-powered baby-health tool into a broader infant-care experience, using research and concept testing to protect the user value of the idea through a major business pivot.

The opportunity extended beyond a single scan result. Tracking, health insights, and guidance could give parents ongoing support—turning a momentary utility into a broader infant-care experience.

02 / CHALLENGE
Protect the reason to use it.
Protect the reason to use it.
The project began as an exploration of ML-powered infant gut-health insights. A business pivot required integration with Pampers Club and a stronger role in acquisition, retention, and product recommendation. Parents, however, were looking for reassurance about their baby’s health—not another way to buy diapers.

Lead with care.

Health insight should create the value; commercial value should follow from it.
Health insight should create the value; commercial value should follow from it.
Rather than immediately converting the tool into a recommendation engine, I advocated for testing a spectrum of concepts—from direct product recommendations to richer health-focused experiences. This let consumer value guide the response to the business pivot.

04 / DECISIONS
Test the proposition.
Test the proposition.
01
Start with the care journey
Research showed that parents were looking for reassurance and useful information about their baby’s health. I used quantitative feedback and moderated interviews to expand the brief beyond what the ML scanner could do.
02
Test the business request
We compared recommendation-led and health-led concepts, including scan, advisor, and tracker combinations. Putting alternatives in front of parents gave the team evidence to evaluate the commercial request rather than optimize around an internal assumption.
03
Make the scan an entry point
Tracking, longitudinal insight, and guidance could turn a momentary utility into an ongoing relationship. I expanded the product vision beyond a single scan result while keeping the parent’s need for reassurance central.

05 / IMPACT
A broader experience. A clearer direction.
A broader experience. A clearer direction.
Infant-care experience
Expanded the concept from an isolated ML utility toward a broader infant-care experience.
Commercial alignment
Connected health-oriented consumer value with Pampers Club retention and commerce objectives.
Shared decision framework
Created a framework for evaluating competing product strategies together rather than debating them abstractly.
